A total of 60 young golfers from 23 schools representing 27 golf clubs from Highland and Moray took part in the seventh annual Highland Junior Golf Championships held at Spey Valley Golf Course, Aviemore, on Thursday 15 October.
Invergordon Academy and Gordonstoun School won the team events. Lyle McAlpine, Corey McAlpine and Ross Black of Invergordon Academy won the Highland team event for the Bruce Robertson Trophy with a net score of 241.
Gordonstoun School won the Brian Anderson Shield for the best Moray school team with a score of 235. The winning Gordonstoun team was Tim Hope, Patrick Styles and Frederick Varly.
Tim Hope of Gordonstoun won the Duncan Allan Quaich for recording the lowest boys' scratch score of 77. Runner-up was Lyle McAlpine of Invergordon Academy with a 78. Jamie Treasurer, Inverness College, was third on 79.
Jennifer Innes, Keith Grammar, won the Grant Trophy for the best girls' scratch score, with 82.
The event was hosted and sponsored by Macdonald Aviemore Highland Resort and the prizes were presented by Murray Urquhart, Director of Golf at the Spey Valley course. The North Highland College UHI Millennium Institute also sponsored the event.

Alan Fleming, lecturer at North Highland College U H I Millennium Institute said: “We are proud to support the Highland Junior Golf Championship which once again has attracted the top juniors in Highland and Moray local authorities. The College look forward to continuing to support this event as well as working to promote golf across the area from our base in Dornoch.”
Willie MacKay, Highland Junior Golf Manager, remarked how the standard of junior golf continues to improve. This year nearly 40 single figure handicap juniors played with a further 20 having a handicap of under 15. “A fantastic day for north juniors and Highland Council is delighted to work jointly with MacDonalds and North Highland College UHI staging this impressive event,” he said.
