2. Community Company Structure


There is circulated Report No SWCH14-06 by the Director of Planning and Development which sets out the type of support available to any interested parties wishing to establish a community company from Highland Opportunity Limited which although owned by Highland Council operates at arms length from the Council.

Members are asked to note the contents of the report.


3. Opportunities for Older People


There is circulated Joint Report No SWCH15-06 by the Acting Director of Social Work and Director of Education, Culture and Sport, which presents the key outcomes arising from two Networking Days that were held in Kingussie and Fort William to explore the opportunities that exist for improving the quality of life for older people.

Members are invited to:-


i.    consider and approve the proposed way forward, as outlined in Section
      7.2 (iv) of the report, with specific reference to the drafting and
      agreement of local Action Plans for Opportunities for Older People for the
      communities of Badenoch and Fort William;

ii.   agree that as part of this exercise Area Managers in Education, Culture and
     Sport and Community Care Social Work should work together in mapping
     out the range of support services for older people in their area and sources
     of funding.  This will enable services provided by Social Work to target
     services on supporting people with high assessed need to remain at home;

iii.  consider and approve the Networking Day model as an appropriate
     mechanism for further action in other Highland communities in considering
     and actioning opportunities for older people and in so doing remit Area
     Social Work and Area Education, Culture and Sport Managers to begin the
     process in their Area; and

iv.  agree that external funding sources, to enable enhanced opportunities for
     older people, be explored.


4. Progress Report on Procurement Process   


There is circulated Report No SWCH16-06 by the Acting Director of Social Work which provides a progress report on the procurement process.
