Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open
Castle Stuart Golf Links, Inverness Thursday 11 - Sunday 14 July, 2013
Phil Mickelson sings the praises of the city of Inverness after winning
What terrific news from the Scottish Government and Aberdeen Asset Management that they are to continue sponsorship of the Scottish Open until 2017. Castle Stuart is to host one of the three events, with 2016 a likely date. This is great news for the Highlands and a huge vote of confidence in the Castle Stuart Links, which have looked absolutely fabulous on television. A further boost is that NBC are to continue network coverage in the US of the Scottish Open, which will be held the week ahead of the Open.
It was marvellous to watch the best players from The European Tour on the outstanding links course and its beautiful surroundings. Over the week, the event attracted 65,528 spectators, who witnessed a wonderful display of golf and a hugely popular winner in Phil Mickelson. What a tremendous ambassador Phil is for the game, always having time to sign an autograph and speak with people.
It was also great to see the Highlands showcased to a worldwide television audience. The aerial shots were amazing. All in all the event was a terrrific success and a wonderful advert for the Castle Stuart Links and the Highlands. I can't wait for the Scottish Open to return.
