Freedom of Information
The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 came fully into force on 1 January 2005 and introduced a general right of access to information held by public authorities, including The Highland Council. Subject to certain conditions and exemptions, any person who makes a request in writing (or some other permanent form) to a public authority will be entitled to receive it.
Recent disclosures: the Council publishes requests it receives under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act, with the following exceptions -
- responses that concern personal matters
- responses which involve large quantities of documentation
- planning matters, which are available via the Council's ePlanning site
The Act is being promoted and enforced by a fully independent Scottish Information Commissioner who carried out an assessment of the Council's response to FOI requests on 28-29 June 2011. Here is the Assessment (pdf 152 Kb) and Action Plan (pdf 138 Kb) from the Scottish Information Commissioner's website.
To make a request for information you can use our online form or send your request in writing to Freedom of Information Officer, Chief Executive's Office, Glenurquhart Road, Inverness, IV3 5NX.
