Current Projects

Working for Families - Highland

Working for Families in the Highlands of Scotland is a project which aims to ensure that child care is not a barrier to parents entering education, training or employment. It commenced in August 2004. The project is funded by the Scottish Executive and delivered by the Highland Council in partnership with appropriate local agencies in East Caithness/Sutherland, Easter Ross, parts of Inverness and Skye & Lochalsh.

Small Town Networks

A cluster of community/business Initiatives based in a dozen small towns around the Inner Moray Firth, together with the Highland capital, Inverness. The towns are working together to secure sustainable regeneration, particularly in relation to community development.

A96 Corridor Study

The Council is currently working with Partners and stakeholders to prepare a long term Masterplan for the A96 Corridor between Inverness and Auldearn.  The first phase of this study was completed in 2005.  Further details can be found on the A96 Page.

Transport to Employment

Transport to Employment (T2E) is a partnership between the Highland Council and Jobcentre Plus offering an alternative method of getting to work in instances where public or other forms of transport are not available.  Click the link on the right for further information.

Business Development

Highland Opportunity Ltd is the Enterprise Trust for the Highlands.  It is wholly owned by the Highland Council and offers a wide range of financial assistance, business support, youth services, and European Consultancy to Small and medium–sized businesses.  The Trust manages all Highland Council Business Support Services, including the Employment Grants Scheme.

Public Tenders

Public Tenders has been developed by European Business Services, in partnership with local public sector agencies – The Highland Council, Northern Constabulary, Moray Council and Scottish Natural Heritage.  This site contains information on the purchasing policies, procedures and contacts in each of the agencies, as well as background to procurement rules and regulations and links and leads to associated sites and publications.  It also provides an alert service informing companies of tender adverts from the above agencies. At present, companies in the United Kingdom can subscribe free of charge to be sent alerts. Subscribers can search the database of tenders for information in their sector or geographic area.  For further information, please click the external link to the right.

Tourism

The Council works in partnership with VisitScotland to promote this valuable industry.
