The Scottish Highlands and Islands Film Commission

In economic development terms, commercial film and television related activity has been increasing over recent years, with local businesses generating significant income from supplying film and television related goods and services.

In 1997, The Highland Council formed a partnership with six other local authorities in the North of Scotland, creating the “Scottish Highlands and Islands Film Commission”. The Commission offers a range of free and confidential services to film and television companies including:

  • Assistance in identifying suitable locations, including access to an extensive digitised photographic library and provision of reference material.
  • Advice on arranging filming at locations, including contacts for negotiating permission and fees.
  • Advice on local services and facilities. The Commission maintains a directory of film services which is now available on-line through the the Scottish Highlands and Islands Film Commission web site.
  • Liaison with relevant public agencies and private businesses as required.
  • Advice on possible sources of finance (The Film Commission itself does NOT provide financial assistance for projects).
