Liquor Licensing

A new licensing law has come into force which is designed to help protect local communities from some of the more negative effects of alcohol. The Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 Act has five clear objectives which it is hoped will:

  • Help prevent crime and disorder
  • Enhance public safety
  • Prevent public nuisance
  • Protect and improve public health
  • Protect children from harm

The 2005 Act places a duty on each council to establish a Local Licensing Forum for its area. Its role is to comment on the Board's general policy approach.
