The Highland Energy Efficiency Advice Centre (HEEAC) offers a range of services which include running a comprehensive range of energy efficiency initiatives with the Highland Council and other partners. The HEEAC can provide:

Impartial telephone advice
The HEEAC operates the Freephone number 0800 512 012 through which enquirers can obtain information on energy efficiency measures, good practice guides and renewable energy technologies.

Home Energy Checks (HECs) and Reports
The HEEAC administers the HECs for the Highland Council area. You can complete a HEC on this site.

Energy Efficiency Roadshows
The HEEAC carries out a range of roadshows including Light Bulb Amnesties, attending Flu Clinics and supporting national campaigns such as Warm Homes Week and Scottish Energy Efficiency Advice Week.

Energy advice presentations
Energy Advice Officers from the HEEAC make presentations to a wide range of groups within the community such as lunch clubs, retirement groups and schools in the Highland Council area.

Energy awareness training
The HEEAC can provide training in energy awareness to both Council staff and to staff from other organisations that work in the community. The training can be tailored to cover specific needs but usually covers:

  • Fuel poverty in Scotland
  • Grants for energy efficiency measures
  • High fuel bills and their impact
  • Cold and draughty homes
  • Dampness, condensation and ventilation
  • Heating systems, appliances and controls
  • Water heating
  • Household electrical appliances
  • Handy hints to save energy


Advice on national and local grants, offers and Energy Saving Trust initiatives
The HEEAC holds information on a wide range of grants and offers and can provide further information on how to apply for these.
