Hate crime in schools

Bullying behaviour in schools can also be prejudice-based and related to perceived or actual differences. Vulnerable children and young people may be particularly at risk of experiencing bullying, compounding other difficulties in their lives.
Highland schools adopt the national stance on bullying behaviour which respects the rights of children as paramount.

This approach includes a commitment to highlight bullying behaviours based on different aspects of prejudice and perceived differences and to treating all types of prejudice-based bullying behaviours with the same importance.

Reports of prejudice-based bullying behaviours in Highland Schools will be taken seriously and investigated in accordance with the Highland Council Schools Positive Relationships and Bullying Prevention Policy, Guidance and Toolkit
