Pensions

What to do after someone dies

What you need to do

Please tell us about the death of someone in receipt of one of our pensions. We need the following information:

  • name
  • payroll number
  • National Insurance number
  • date of death
  • name, relationship, telephone number and address of next of kin and or solicitor involved

What we will do

The department where the person worked should immediately contact the Pension section to confirm the death with a telephone call followed up by an email confirming:

  • name
  • payroll number
  • National Insurance number
  • date of death
  • name, relationship, telephone number and address of next of kin and or solicitor involved

We will then contact the next of kin or solicitor with the relevant information required to enable us to process any death benefits which may be payable. For the death of a pensioner, we will also notify the payroll section so that they can stop payment of the pension.
