Entertainment licences

Theatre licence

Before you start

You will need:

Apply for a licence

Any person operating premises where they intend to use it for public performance of any play require to be licensed by the local authority. This is a requirement under the Theatres Act 1968. Before being granted a licence, your premises will be inspected to assess standards within the premises and to discuss your proposals. We will also consult formally with the police and fire and rescue services.

Any person aggrieved by a refusal to be granted a licence or by any conditions to which a licence is subject may appeal to the Sheriff who may give such directions regarding the licence or its conditions as it thinks proper.
