Criminal Justice Social Work Report

This report provides the court with the information and advice it needs to decide the most appropriate way to deal with offenders.  

Parole Home Background and Home Leave Reports

  • Parole home background reports are prepared by social workers in the community and the prison for use by the parole board, to determine suitability for parole
  • Home leave reports are prepared by social workers in the community for use by the prison, to determine suitability for temporary home leave
  • Both reports analyse the risks the prisoner poses in the community and how this can be safely managed

Other reports and assessments

During a community sentence, social work may be asked by the courts to prepare progress reports, completion reports and reviews. Criminal justice social work also carry out suitability assessments for drug treatment and testing orders, diversion from prosecution, fiscal work orders and restriction of liberty orders.
