Tasks and responsibilities

At the meeting of the Audit and Scrutiny Committee (AS) on 28 September 2023, it was agreed that the Committee be renamed the Audit Committee (AC).

The remit of the Audit Committee (AC) is to:

  • advise the Council on matters relating to the programme of internal and external audit work and findings and recommendations arising from audit reports
  • perform a scrutiny role through the provision of a workplan for the Council’s approval and to deal with matters referred by the Council for scrutiny purposes
  • advise the Council on matters arising from complaints to the Ombudsman and other complaints systems relevant to Council services
  • advise the Council on the implementation of, and matters arising from the Code of Conduct of Councillors and matters arising from the Ethical Standards in Public Life Etc (Scotland) Act 2000 and other relevant legislation
  • scrutinise actions agreed by Strategic Committees in response to the findings and recommendations arising from national reports by scrutiny bodies
