Protecting the historic environment

We identify, protect, promote and interpret the historic and archaeological heritage of the Scottish Highlands for the benefit of residents and visitors.

We cover historic buildings, conservation areas, archaeological sites and the wider landscape in which these sit.

We provide the following service:

  • Advising owners, developers and planners on risks to heritage sites and ways to mitigate these
  • Liaising with heritage organisations and community outreach programmes
  • Maintaining the Highland Historic Environment Record
  • Promoting the rich archaeological and historical heritage of the Highlands through events, such as the Highland Archaeology Festival and Doors Open Day
