Empty homes

A home that has been empty for 6 months or more is considered a long term empty home.

If you own an empty home

There are different ways you can bring your property back into use, for example,  by renting it out or selling it.

Bringing an empty property back into use has many benefits. It can save you the cost of it lying empty. It could also provide you with a rental income, or a significant lump sum through its sale.

What you can do

Advice about possible options, and what to do, is available on the Shelter Scotland website.

Our role

We can provide advice and support for owners who want to do something with their empty property.

If your empty home is in a community where there is a big shortage of housing, we may be interested in leasing it from you - our residential leasing scheme.
