SCA Great Glen Paddle Fest 23rd - 25th March 2012
On Friday 23rd March 2012 the Great Glen Canoe Trail will be formally opened.
To celebrate the opening and the fantastic paddling destination of the Great Glen and the Calednonian Canal, British Waterways Scotland have teamed up with the Scottish Canoe Association to bring to you the first Great Glen Paddle Festival. Based in Fort Augustus, the heart of the Great Glen, this event will look to promote both canoe and sea kayak disciplines (crafts recommended for the Canoe Trail) by offering a extensive range of skill workshops for all level of paddler. To deliver these workshops we have invited the top coaches in these disciplines to make this launch truly memorable.
You can attend either half day, full day or even the full weekend of workshops. On top of this there will be an evening of paddling presentations given by a number of our guest coaches on Friday, a paddling exhibition area throughout Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday with many exhibitor and trade stands to visit. Our event would not be complete however without a Highland Ceilidh on the Saturday evening.
Hire boats and kit can be available onsite for those who require however you would need to book this at the same time as purchasing your workshop and ceilidh tickets. Further information from http://greatglencanoetrail.info/whats-on/sca-great-glen-paddle-fest-2012

Learning Teaching Scotland - CPD Partnership Opportunities Programme in Outdoor Learning
Following the launch of the guidance document – Curriculum for Excellence through Outdoor Learning – and the online resource in April 2010, www.ltscotland.org.uk/learningteachingandassessment/approaches/outdoorlearning/, and the six regional conferences in May/June 2010, the Scottish Government asked Learning and Teaching Scotland to form a CPD programme in outdoor learning for teachers and early years practitioners in Scotland.
CPD sessions are Free to all attendees but cover and travel costs cannot be met by Learning and Teaching Scotland.
The difficulties in attending CPD sessions in the current financial situation are recognised and a wide range of times, dates and venues has been offered in an attempt to facilitate attendance.
The programme aims to give teachers:
• practical ideas and tips
• suggestions to develop outdoor learning within and across curriculum areas
• the knowledge and confidence to present children and young people with a range of outdoor learning opportunities at different levels
• opportunities to find out about local and national partner organisations that can help deliver experiences and outcomes outdoors.
Sessions are designed to extend professional development and delegates will be expected to share backgrounds and ideas before sessions and, more importantly, to share learning and teaching outdoor experiences with cohorts
of children and young people after the CPD sessions have taken place.
If you would like to view or download the full programme or register for a session please visit www.ltscotland.org.uk/learningteachingandassessment/approaches/outdoorlearning/ If you experience any difficulties and/or you wish for further information please contact Joan Reilly at Learning and Teaching Scotland: j.reilly@LTScotland.org.uk
After registering for a session you will be sent a confirmation email with further details of venue, what to bring etc and sent a reminder one to two weeks before the session. Up-to-date information on individual sessions can be found
on the Learning and Teaching Scotland website using the link above.
LTS are continually adding to their list of events related to the Curriculum for Excellence.
