The post holder will work on addressing broader barriers identified in the jointly funded National Parks and Scottish Natural Heritage research report published in March 2009, ‘Scotland's National Parks and National Nature Reserves – overcoming barriers to engagement’. Further, the post holder will liaise with local and national outdoor learning groups and interested parties across all representative local authorities. Schools outwith the National Parks will benefit from this broader work.  The post holder will organise and deliver CPD training to relevant staff and act as a conduit across and between partners to share information and resources. Key outputs at a national and local level are detailed in the job description.

The post holder will work both nationally and locally to deliver tangible outcomes for all partners by linking, developing and delivering local authority action plans with national developments such as the work of the Outdoor Learning Strategic Advisory Group (OLSAG).

Core Responsibilities:

The post holder will work at both a national and local level and will be expected to organise and deliver events to meet the terms of the project as well as producing an interim and final report which would include recommendations for next steps.

Delivering at a local authority level the post holder will:

·         Work closely with each of the local authority officers or outdoor learning steering group to support effective delivery of their action plans, taking into consideration different emphases in each area (e.g. rural skills agenda or climate change projects).

·         Audit existing local authority outdoor learning provision and create clear and focussed learning opportunities linked to Curriculum for Excellence for schools to use.

·          Work closely with the National Parks, SNH and local authority staff to develop and deliver resources and training to support schools engaging more readily with the National Parks and the outdoors.

Delivering at a national level the post holder will:

·         Work with LTS development officers to move actions forward with schools and partners to develop sustainable outdoor learning partnerships which address issues such as transport, risk assessment, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and access to information.

·         Map and review learning opportunities in the National Parks and develop resources that assist Scottish schools in accessing and using the National Parks to deliver Curriculum for Excellence.

·         Liaise as necessary with key partners and schools, outdoor learning providers, outdoor education centres, local authorities, Scottish Government, HMIE, SQA, SFEU and other bodies in delivering outdoor learning through the National Parks.

·         Work in close collaboration with other colleagues in LTS to ensure that the necessary interconnections are made with related areas of work, in particular the use of GLOW and other websites/intranets to promote the outputs of the project.
