EVOLVE - For Recording Excursions

EVOLVE is a web based system that Highland Council and High Life Highland staff use to record educational excursions.

Every establishment, e.g. schools, has access to EVOLVE.

Staff that take children and young people on educational excursions are given an account within EVOLVE (usernames and password are issued by their establishment) so they can access a significant library of web sites and documents supporting learning outwith their normal establishment as well as enabling them to plan and record the proposed excursion.

Every recorded excursion has to be approved by the lead officer within the establishment e.g. the Head Teacher in a School, additional approval from the Local Authority is required for some adventurous activity excursions, trips overseas and pupil exchange trips.

Highland Council's educational excursion policy is based upon the best practice guide Health and Safety on Educational Excursions produced by the Scottish Government.

In addition, Highland Council provides guidance to its staff leading adventurous activities through a policy document known as the Outdoor Education Safety Document

Details about delivering the Curriculum for Excellence through Outdoor Learning can be found on the Education Scotland web site.
