Built in 1981, Mallaig Primary is sited in a stunning location on a hillside overlooking Mallaig harbour and the Isle of Skye. Mallaig Primary School accommodates both a Gaelic and English nursery, along with Gaelic and English departments.
Whilst the school serves the catchment area of Mallaig village, we also welcome pupils from neighbouring villages such as Morar and Arisaig, in particular those who wish to study within the Gaelic language. The school is non-denominational and currently boasts a total roll of 93 including the Nursery.
The school building itself is semi-open plan in design, with seven classrooms, a large multi purpose hall with adjoining kitchen, a large and well equipped computer suite, a music room, a learning support room, expansive common and reading areas, along with both a large fenced playground and a garden area at the exterior of the school.
The Nursery forms an integral part of the school and is located within the building itself, adjacent to the school hall, which allows easy access to the gymnasium, outdoor play area and the Primary 1 classes thus assisting in the transition process from Nursery into the Primary School.
The English department and nursery school has a total roll of 50. The Gaelic department and nursery school has a total roll 43. This allows for two classes in each department, a Primary 1-4 and a Primary 5-7 in English, and a Primary 1-3 and a 4-7 in Gaelic. The teaching staff consist of 3 full time teachers, one part time teacher, a peripatetic support for learning teacher and a visiting P.E specialist. We are also supported by classroom assistants and support for learning auxiliaries.
