In 2006, work commenced on seven of the 11 new schools and community facilities to be built through the Council’s second Public Private Partnership (PPP) Programme.  The programme involves replacements for four secondary schools, Millburn Academy in Inverness, Dingwall Academy, Portree High School and Kinlochleven High School.

In 2007, five primary schools have been completed, two on the Black Isle at Resolis and Culbokie, two in Inverness, comprising a new school at Inshes, a new purpose built Gaelic Primary School and a new primary school in Cawdor. ln addition Kinlochleven Primary School is also to be replaced.

The final school which will be completed in 2008 will be a replacement for Drummond School in Inverness. All the schools have been designed in consultation with the community to include a range of facilities which will be available to the public. These facilities will include library provision, sports & recreational facilities and community meeting rooms. The schools are being built by Alpha Schools Highland Ltd.

The first PPP programme provided four "21st century schools" including Ardnamurchan High School, Glen Urquhart High School, Spean Bridge Primary School and Strathdearn Primary School.  These were completed in 2002.  These Schools were built by Community Schools (Highlands) Ltd.
