Màiri Mhòr Song Fellowship

Fiona MacKenzie singing at Film Alba 2005 in Bonn

The Council established the Mairi Mhor Gaelic Song Fellowship in 2002 initially as a one year project with support funding from the Scottish Arts Council and a range of Gaelic and Cultural organisations.

Since its creation the Fellowship has had a high profile within the Highlands and good partnerships have been established with related organisations.

Mod Gold Medalist, Fiona MacKenzie is The Highland Council's Màiri Mhòr Song Fellow.

Amongst the key projects the Fellowship has been involved with are a CD of popular Mod songs to aid children’s learning, publication of a book of Ross-shire Gaelic Songs, School and Feisean Singing Workshops and the formation of the vocal harmony group Fionnar – which has scored notable successes on the international front in Ireland and more recently at the National Eisteddfodd.

Fiona has just brought out a Gaelic Song Book featuring songs from Ross-shire. To find out about this and the work of the fellowship, please look at the press releases listed.
