Below is an outline of a library induction session for pre-school and nursery age children. Outline of induction session for pre-school children
The sample session has been given a theme. This is not essential, but it can make it easier to organise if you are focusing on a particular topic. It also gives you a chance to introduce facts as well as stories, and can enable you to tie in with what the children have been investigating at nursery school.

- All sing a welcome song
- Chat / questions and answers about the library
- Perhaps another song
- A story
- A tour of the library if practical, or an activity such as colouring-in
- Another story
- Goodbye song
- Children have a chance to borrow a book if they wish to before leaving
