In order to use the computers in Highland Council Llibraries you must first agree to our Acceptable Use Policy which is provided in a variety of languages under "Current Documents" on the right of this page.
Internet access in Highland Libraries is provided by JANET (Joint Academic Network) in partnership with UHI (www.uhi.ac.uk).
In order to provide you with Internet access, we must comply with the JANET "Acceptable Use Policy" which requires us to be able to identify every individual who accesses the Internet using this network of PCs. From time to time, staff may check your ID and your library membership details to ensure compliance with this policy.
Highland Libraries filter your Internet access using a product called Websense.
Exe(cutable) and ZIP files are blocked.
Websense uses lists of websites to block - at times Websense will block a website for "no apparent reason". If this happens to you when using the computers in libraries, email libraries@highlifehighland.com and provide the following information -
- your library card number
- the full website address you are trying to access
We will endeavour to lift the block on the website within 1 day of receiving your email and will reply to your email telling you that this has been done.
There are two filter levels for Internet access in Highland Libraries, one for under 16 year olds and one for over 16 year olds. As a result, some sites (like Bebo) are only available to customers who are 16 or over.
If you have any questions regarding Internet access from computers in Highland Council Libraries please contact us by email on libraries@highlifehighland.com
