Mobile Library Service
High Life Highland delivers community learning and leisure services including library and information services on behalf of The Highland Council.
What is it?
Our mobile libraries are on the road almost every day. The routes are tailored to meet the requirements of individual communities to ensure access where there is most need. Stops may be at primary schools, residential homes, community halls, at the centre of villages and even at or near private homes if appropriate.
Each mobile library carries an imaginative range of books for adults, teenagers and children to suit all reading interests. Some also offer a selection of videos and talking books. You can put in free requests for any item held in Highland Libraries stock on any mobile library.
How can I use this service?
If you are already a member take your Highland Libraries card with you when you see the mobile library at a stop near you. If you are not a member yet, take proof of your identity and address (e.g. an allowance book or a driver's licence) and ask to join. You will be able to borrow right away.
When will the library be in my area?
The mobile library service works to a timetable. On the rare occasions when we have to withdraw the service due to dangerous weather conditions or for safety checks and maintenance we will do all we can to notify you.
How long can I keep the items I borrow?
Anything you borrow from the mobile library is loaned to you for three weeks. However, because we know you may find it difficult to visit the library each time it calls there will be no charge unless you keep things more than six weeks. You can renew your loans (so long as no-one else is waiting for them):
- in person at any library in The Highland Council area
- by telephoning one of the numbers below
- via your account on the on-line catalogue web site - you will need your PIN to do this
- by e-mail - you will need to give your name and the numbers on the library barcodes inside the books or other items
