Library Support Unit

The Library Support Unit, based in Inverness, acts as the hub of the network and the point of contact with libraries and suppliers in the U.K. and internationally. Here standards are set and performance monitored to ensure that a consistent, high quality, customer focused library and information service is delivered throughout the Highlands.   Area Library staff visit regularly to select stock and meet with Co-ordinators to discuss the particular requirements of their areas.

The Library Network
The Network is managed by the Library Network Team which meets every six weeks and includes Area Libraries Officers from each of The Highland Council Areas, and specialist Co-ordinators based in the Library Support Unit.   These meetings allow the exchange of information and ideas and permit informed decisions to be made which ensure the progress and development of your library service.

The Co-ordinators and their teams include:

Joyce Watson, Library and Information Services Co-ordinator, responsible for the co-ordination of the libraries network.

Stephanie Hoyle, Principal Schools Librarian, responsible for advising on library services to schools

John Dempster, Senior Librarian, Systems Co-ordinator responsible for the computerised library management system together with Brenda Hoare, Senior Library Assistant (Systems), Ian Dalrymple, Library Performance Monitor and Grant Butchart, Data Creator.

Carol Hart, Senior Librarian Stock Co-ordinator responsible for maximising the procurement and circulation of stock, together with Wayne Dunbar, Senior Library Assistant (Stock) and his team of Library Assistants.

Peter McCann, ICT Infrastructure Co-ordinator responsible for the Peoples Network computers offering free access to computer facilities including the Internet in all our libraries.

Norman Newton, Senior Librarian Information Co-ordinator responsible for the co-ordination of reference and information services in all libraries.

Elizabeth Parker, Senior Librarian Children & Families responsible for the co-ordination and evaluation of BookStart and of library and information services for children, families, carers and teachers.

Highland Libraries welcome comments on how we perform network-wide. Staff are on duty at Library Support Unit during normal opening hours to receive your calls. An answering service is available at all other times.
