Following from ‘The Gathering’ project and as part of The Highland Council’s commitment to establishing area archive centres or ‘spokes’, the Lochaber Archive Centre opened in December 2007. As a branch of The Highland Council Archive Service, the Lochaber Archive Centre is responsible for locating, preserving and making locally accessible documents and other records relating to the history of Lochaber.

• Local authority archives for Lochaber (including the Fort William Burgh Police
Commissioners and Town Council records)
• School and other education Records
• Poor Relief Records
• Valuation Rolls
• Estate and Family Archives of Cameron of Lochiel and Cameron-Head of
Lochailort
• Maps and Plans, including early large scale Ordnance Survey sheets

The searchroom is open to all members of the public free of charge. Staff are always on hand to advise.
