As a branch of The Highland Council Archive Service, the Skye & Lochalsh Archive Centre is responsible for locating, preserving and making locally accessible archives relating to the history of Skye and Lochalsh.
The service has recently moved to premises at the Elgin Hostel, Portree which have been adapted to meet archival standards. The much improved facility includes a public searchroom, exhibition space, and an environmentally controlled archive repository which will accommodate the collections formerly held by the Dualchas Heritage Service, alongside records relating to Skye and Lochalsh recently transferred from Inverness.
