Approved Venues for Civil Marriage and Civil Partnership
Civil marriages can now be solemnised at locations other than registration offices under The Marriage (Scotland) Act 2002.
Similarly, the Civil Partnership Act 2004 enables Civil Partnership Registration to take place at locations other than registration offices.
It is Highland Council policy that Civil Ceremonies at Approved Venues will be conducted on:
Monday to Friday between the hours of 9 am and 7 pm
Saturday and Public holidays between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm.
Sundays and 25th and 26th December, 1st and 2nd January are excluded.
There are two types of approval, a period approval for a three-year term, or a temporary approval for a particular date. The fee for a temporary approval is reduced if the venue is the home of one of the parties to the marriage or civil partnership, or the home of one of their parents.
For initial enquiries about applications for approval of venues please contact:
Kathleen Chisholm (Inverness Registration Office)
Anna Gallie (Dingwall Registration Office)
Isobel MacKellaig (Fort William Registration Office)
Meg Gillies (Portree Registration Office)
Details of all venues approved for civil ceremonies in the Highlands can be found on the link to the A-Z of Approved Venues on the right-hand side of this page.
