Portree Registration Office
Comfortable seating is available for parties from 4 to 20 in total. A member of staff will be available to welcome the party and their guests. Accommodation for larger parties (up to 100) is available in the main Highland Council offices at Tigh Na Sgire. You should arrange for the hire of this accommodation directly with reception (tel. 01478 612341): a modest hire fee is due to Tigh Na Sgire for the use of the Council Chambers.
Both venues (which are available for viewing by arrangement) are at ground level and are suitable for disabled access. The offices are situated in the centre of Portree and are only a few minutes walk from the picturesque fishing harbour, the bay with spectacular views of the Cuillins and the main village square.
Parking facilities are available at the car park next to the Tourist Information Centre which is across from the office.
Photographs and video recordings may be taken during the ceremony at the Registrar’s discretion (usually the signing of the Schedule). There are many dramatic viewpoints within walking distance which provide a romantic backdrop for photographs.
Background music is provided or you may provide music of your choice, in consultation with the Registrar.
Silk arrangements are provided, or you may wish to supply fresh flowers.
Other Approved Venues in Skye and Lochalsh
You may wish to have your ceremony in a hotel or other venue of your choice, provided it has been approved by the local authority for that purpose. Further information regarding approved premises is available from the Registrar and a full list of Approved Venues in Highland can be found in the 'Related Information' section opposite.
If your preferred venue is not approved for civil ceremonies you should contact the Registrar for further advice.
Please note
Prior to the ceremony the parties are required to verify all details to be recorded on the schedule which will be signed during the ceremony, and to discuss the form of the ceremony used. A separate appointment is required for this, at a time to be mutually agreed.
The Registrar will be happy to discuss any aspects relating to your civil ceremony.
