The Highland Council is working with its partners to increase the supply of affordable housing in the Highlands. This can be both housing for rent through a registered social landlord, such as a housing association, or low cost home ownership schemes. We have produced a leaflet called "Housing Options in the Highlands", available from Service Points and Housing and Property Offices describing these schemes. You can also read it in the Current Documents section.
The Council has also made it a planning requirement that all new housing developments in the private sector of 10 or more homes must contain 25% affordable homes.
Development Forums have been set up throughout the Highlands where officers from all the interested agencies meet to discuss housing need and possible future developments.
People attending these forum meetings include staff from the Council's Housing, Planning and Development and TEC Services, Communities Scotland, Housing Associations, Highlands Small Communities Housing Trust, the Crofters Commission, Scottish Water, Cairngorms National Park Authority (where they have an interest) and Local Enterprise Companies.
"Development Matters" News Reports
The Housing Development Team at the Highland Council produces a regular news report that profiles and highlights recent affordable housing developments and on-going projects the Development Team are involved in. PDF versions of the report which you can print off can be found under Current Documents.
