Affordable Housing at Auldearn

Following a Reporter’s enquiry, the long awaited development of the site to the South of George Wilson Road begins later this year. This is a key site for the Council and its partners in delivering affordable housing as there is the opportunity to provide affordable housing in a variety of ways in a pressured area.

Through the Council’s affordable housing policy, the Inverness-based developer MacKintosh Highland will sell land to Albyn Housing Society to build 21 affordable houses for rent and for sale through the Homestake form of low cost home ownership.  In addition, the developer is required as part of the planning permission to provide 4 serviced plots for self-build to Albyn at no cost. The plots will be targeted to first time buyers who are currently Council or housing association tenants and are living in the Auldearn area.

With a total site capacity of 60 houses, the Council has achieved a proportion of 42% affordable housing. This level of affordable housing and the mix of rented and owner-occupier housing ensures that the Council and its partners achieve their aim to build integrated communities.
