Mrs Anderson receiving keys of new house

The real benefit of investment in affordable housing was illustrated recently when a young family accepted the keys to a new house in Portmahomack, part of a project of nine new homes provided by Albyn Housing Society in partnership with the Highland Council and the Scottish Government.

Mrs Diane Anderson is pictured here with her daughter Zoe, receiving the keys to her new house from Donald Lockhart of Albyn Housing Society.

Seeing her new house at Ben View for the first time, Mrs Anderson said:

“We are delighted with our new home and feel incredibly lucky.  As we have family in the Portmahomack area we were very keen to remain here and send our kids to the local school.  We have recently been staying in a smaller home, so the four bedrooms and two bathrooms, coupled with the fact that this is a new build will make a tremendous difference to our quality of life.  I know the children will really enjoy the garden in the summer months too.”

The development includes a mix of two, three and four bedroom, partially timber-clad homes for rent, providing much needed affordable family homes for up to 35 people on a site provided by the Highland Council.

The housing was planned through liaison with the Council and Tarbat Community Council to  meet the needs of the area, including provision for homes suitable for the elderly.
