Update from the Highland Housing Alliance
The Highland Housing Alliance has delivered on several significant projects over the last year. this is in the face of the current house building slowdown, although it seems that the Highlands have fared better than many other part of the UK.
There are however acute shortages of all types of housing throughout the North and our main objectives to deliver land an dhouses to meet the demand remains unchanged.
The Highland Housing Alliance Charitable Trust
The Highland Housing Alliance’s Charitable Trust is an independent charity and has been in existence since May 2008. It has already donated around £800,000 from the Alliance’s surpluses to local housing related good causes including:-
- Tackling homelessness
- Handyperson schemes
- Debt advice
Examples of organisations and projects which have benefited are as follows:-
Cairn Housing Association
Purchase of van for Handyperson Scheme (see page 9 of this report).
Lochalsh & Skye Housing Association
Funding for a covered walkway at Dornie for a housing project for the elderly.
Albyn Housing Society
Funding for shortfalls in projects in Invergordon and Kinlochewe.
Lochaber Housing Association
Funding for shortfalls in projects at Upper Achintore and Glenancross, Morar.
Pentland Housing Association
Funding for a study into the Viewfirth Club site and options for use of the site.
The Highlands Small Communities Housing Trust
Funding for housing options feasibilities in Camuscross, Sleat, Assynt and Embo.
The Calman Trust
Support services for young vulnerable people in Easter Ross.
