Launch of new Handyperson Scheme for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey

New Handyperson for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey

A new Handyperson scheme has been set up by Cairn Housing Association.  The scheme’s aim is to help pensioners and those suffering a disability who are unable to carry out basic maintenance and repair tasks safely in the home.  The scheme is available to both private and rented sector households.

The Handyperson scheme is funded by the Highland Council’s Housing and Property Services.  Generous support has also been received from the Highland Housing Alliance Charitable Trust, which provided a grant for purchase of the Handyperson transport.

The new service will be available to those people living in Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey.  The works to be undertaken by the Handyperson are varied and will include fitting handrails, fitting smoke alarms, unblocking sinks, replacing tap washers, changing light bulbs, draught proofing etc.  The service will be run in close cooperation with two other service providers currently engaged in supporting these client groups within Inverness, Nairn and Strathnairn, namely Volunteering Highland and Care in Strathnairn.

A spokesperson for Cairn Housing Association said:  “Working in close cooperation with Volunteering Highland  and Care in Strathnairn will improve the level of service currently available across the area and we look forward to working with our service delivery partners.  The scheme provides a reliable inexpensive way of supporting people, enabling them to continue to live in their homes in safety and comfort.  The new service will compliment the Care and Repair service currently managed by Cairn Housing Association”.
