We reported in September 2008 that Cairn Housing Association had completed the construction of an eye catching development in Merkinch, Inverness. Highland Council provided the housing association with the site at no cost and funding was granted by the Scottish Government.
The scheme is a mixed tenure development comprising 16 x 2 bed flats. 8 of the flats are for affordable rent and 8 are for low cost home ownership under the LIFT shared equity initiative.
Twins John and Kenneth Urquhart have taken on the tenancy of a two-bedroomed ground floor flat at The Moorings and are delighted with their new home. John and Kenneth are pictured here moving into their flat last year, after having been on the Council’s housing waiting list for around 10 years.
The brothers had been living in bed and breakfast accommodation for six months and moving into their new home meant that they could start looking for work again.
