Finding housing
In most parts of the Highlands, there is a very great demand for social rented houses, but very few become available for relet each year. This means that, although there are thousands of households on our housing lists (currently over 10,000) only 12 - 15% can be housed each year. There is much greater demand for accommodation than we are able to meet and it is not possible to house everyone who applies. Our priority is to provide accommodation for households in housing need, for example families with children or other people who may be vulnerable in some way, because of age or health, who are homeless or who live in insecure, overcrowded or substandard accommodation.

This provides information on what else you can do to help find housing that suits you. This lists questions and answers about the various types of housing available and other relevant information. At your nearest Housing and Property Office. You can also get housing application forms and information and advice from any of the Council's Service Points.
Who can apply for Council housing?
Anyone 16 and over can apply for council and other social rented housing, using the Highland Housing Register, which is operated by the Council and its housing association partners. This means that people can apply for housing with the Council and with any or all of its partner housing associations in the Highlands simply by completing one application form.
