What is Care and Repair?

Care and Repair offers free and confidential information and advice for older people and people with a disability who are homeowners or private tenants to enable them to improve, repair or adapt their homes.

Who is eligible?
 
If you are elderly or have a disability or a family member has a disability, you may be eligible for assistance through Care and Repair. 
 
You should also generally fulfil all following criteria:

  • You are a homeowner or private tenant
  • You have lived in the your home for a minimum of two years
  • Your household income is below £16,000 per annum
  • You are aged over 60 years or you have a disability, or otherwise the works must benefit a member of your the household who has disabilities

If you feel you have particular or exceptional needs but do not fulfil the above criteria, you can still apply to the Care and Repair service for help.  Your case will be looked at on an individual basis and if you are not eligible for this service, you will be told why.

Care and Repair can help by:

  • Organising surveys and drawings
  • Obtaining prices for work
  • Applying for grants
  • Applying for loans or other funding
  • Organising the works
  • Approaching other agencies who may be able to assist you

What type of works can Care and Repair Agents help you with?

Any works can be considered which are necessary to improve your home.   As well as general improvements, these could include:

  • New windows and doors
  • Rewiring
  • Alterations to suit your needs
  • Central heating
