How to get more information

We aim to provide information on a number of topics that we think may be of interest to you. This is because we recognise that information is important in helping people make the right decisions about things that effect them.

We have information on this website on a range of housing topics.  We also provide a range of leaflets that you can pick up in any Service Point or Housing Office. In these we try to answer some of the most common questions asked.  The topics on which information on the web and leaflets are available include:

If you can’t find the information you want on the website or in a leaflet, or there is something that you do not understand you can ask any member of staff at a Service Point or Housing Office.   If they cannot answer your query they will pass it on to someone who can help you.  Alternatively you can e-mail housingandproperty@highland.gov.uk

Other sources of information

Scottish Executive  (offsite link)

Some information you want may be provided by other agencies – for example, the Scottish Executive provides leaflets on the Right to Buy and on tenant’s rights to make improvements to their home.   You can link directly to these from Right to Buy and the Repairs pages on this website.   We will also usually have these leaflets available in our local offices

Advice Agencies

You can get independent information and advice from organisations like the Citizens Advice Bureau (offsite link), Shelter (offsite link) and other general advice agencies.  You can find your nearest office in the telephone directory or you can click on the links here to go to their websites.

Housing Options in the Highlands

This manual provides a wide range of information about possible housing options available in the Highlands – for example it includes information about the type of houses Housing Associations have in each area and information about the grants that are available to improve your home. There is a manual in each Service Point and Housing Office.

Streetwise Highland

‘Streetwise Highland’ is a directory of services available in Highland – for example how to get good second hand furniture or where your nearest doctor’s surgery is.  The Highland Council in partnership with NHS Highland and Inverness Council for Single Homeless produced it.  You can see this directory at any Service Point or Housing Office and you can get free access to it on the internet in most libraries at www.streetwise-highland.org
