In 2003, The Housing Improvement Task Force looked into what more could be done to improve the condition of privately owned houses, and their recommendations became part of the Housing (Scotland) Act 2006.
Local Authorities must produce a statement which explains what we can do to help owners and renters in the private sector with issues of property maintenance and disrepair, and with disabled adaptations to aid independent living.
This statement is known as the Highland Council Scheme of Assistance and it outlines all the ways we can help, both practically and financially. The main priorities of the Scheme are providing suitable, assessed disabled adaptations, and tackling the most severe disrepair in privately owned, and some privately rented houses. This website summarises the Scheme and has links to all the different services we offer to guide you through the assistance available.
