Ness Islands Inverness – major works

Highland Council major remedial works involving trees, paths, bridges, and banks will start at the Ness Islands, in Inverness in April and continue for around 8 months.

From next week, contractor Brandon Landscape Ltd will be starting on tree works which will take at least 6 months to complete. This is primarily light work and areas where works are taking place will be cordoned off without affecting the public too much.

The public are asked to adhere to signs that are posted at the islands’ entrance as during the works paths, bridges, banks and trees could be affected.

Access across the islands will not be possible when work is taking place on bridges. Signs will be displayed at the islands’ entrances on these days. Works will be weather and river-level dependent and forewarning of closures will not be possible. Check the signs each time!

For safety:

  • Please follow diverted routes as indicated.
  • Dog walkers, keep dogs on a lead while works are in progress.
  • Cyclists should travel at slow pace.
  • Children should be kept under visual contact at all times.

Highland Council apologises for any inconvenience, for the works which are to protect and prolong the islands as a popular area for people to enjoy and benefit for years to come.
