Pupils at Resolis Primary School on the Black Isle entertained a special royal guest yesterday (Wednesday 26 April) as part of their 10th anniversary celebrations

HRH the Duke of Gloucester arrived at the school to the sound of the bagpipes played by Lucy McIver (11) and was escorted by the Lord-Lieutenant Janet Bowen into the school which was built 10 years ago to replace the primary schools of Cullicudden and Newhall.

After meeting representatives from the community council and the Parent Council Group pupils Drew Fraser (6) Callum Crawford (6) Abbie Bathgate (9), Caitlin Holm (8), Cara Phillips (11) and Graeme Maclennan (11) led him around a display the whole school has produced to mark the 10th anniversary.

There was then a chance to meet children in the Nursery who were decorating shells before HRH was introduced to trustees and members of the Transition Black Isle Group who spoke to him about their work. The group have been nominated for a Queens Award for Voluntary Service.

Head teacher Jane Bentley then invited HRH outdoors to visit the newly erected poly-tunnel where pupils were planting and watering seeds. After helping complete a woodblox raised bed in the tunnel, HRH was then tasked with assisting pupils to plant a blackcurrant bush in the garden area.

The visit ended with HRH and invited guests joining the whole school for a special celebratory concert featuring singing, dance and music performed by the young people. It opened with Sophie Bathgate playing the piano then Abbie Bathgate, Sophie Gray and Caitlin Holm taking the stage as a violin trio. After the whole school sand Walter the Heron, Kai Boyd played a guitar piece called Atholl Highlanders, Tara van Horrik performed My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean on the piano, Rosie Harrison gave a display of Highland dancing  and the concert ended with all pupils singing My Black island.

HRH was then presented with a posy by the oldest pupil Freya Boyd (12) and the youngest, James Mackenzie (5) before piper Lucy McIver lead the procession outdoors where the whole school assembled to wave good bye.

The visit was greatly enjoyed by guests, staff and pupils. Before taking his leave HRH thanked everyone for looking after him so well and wished everyone all the best for the next 10 years of Resolis Primary.
