Committee Chair and Civic Leader for Ross and Cromarty appointed

The new chair of the Ross and Cromarty Committee is Councillor Fiona Robertson who represents the Tain and Easter Ross ward of The Highland Council. She received unanimous support when the Committee met today in (Monday 19 June) in Dingwall.

After taking the Chair she said: “I would like to thank my fellow councillors for their support.  I am very keen for our Committee to be relevant and more powerful. The Administration of the Council has given a commitment for more local decision making to be devolved. It is up to us as councillors to take the lead so to take this forward I plan to consult with all Ross and Cromarty councillors to find out their suggestions and aspirations. This will allow us, as a Committee, to shape the work we do so it best reflects the needs of the people and communities we represent.”

The new Civic Leader for Ross and Cromarty is Councillor Margaret Paterson who represents the Dingwall and Seaforth Ward. She will also take on the role of Vice Chair of the Committee. Speaking after the meeting she said: “I am very honoured to be appointed as Civic Leader and will consider it a privilege to carry out my duties. Ross and Cromarty is a vibrant part of the Highlands and as I’ve  being a councillor for 23 years I know the area well and this is a new role I will cherish.”

Other appointments made during the meeting are:

  • Director of the Ross and Cromarty Citizen’s Advice Committee  - Cllr Angela MacLean
  • Representative for Poolewe Swimming Pool Association -  Cllr Derek MacLeod
  • Representatives on the Ross and Cromarty Local Access Forum  - Cllr Ian Cockburn & Cllr Gordon Adam
  • Representing the Lochalsh area of the Skye and Lochalsh Local Access Forum -  Cllr Isobelle Campbell

Following these appointments, the Committee went on to scrutinise firstly the Ross and Cromarty Performance Report by the Local Senior Officer for Fire and Rescue and then the area’s housing performance report for the period from 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2017.

The date of the next Ross and Cromarty Committee is 15 August.
