Deadline looming to stand for election to community councils

People in Highland communities are being reminded that the deadline is looming if they wish to stand for community councils in thirteen areas in the Highlands.

Nominations are being invited from people seeking election to: Acharacle; Ardersier and Petty; Balintore and Hilton; Caol; Cradlehall and Westhill; Cromdale and Advie; Fort William; Grantown and Vicinity; Lochbroom; Kingussie and Vicinity; Morvern; Saltburn and Westwood; and Tarbat Community Councils

The deadline for receiving nominations for election is 4pm on Tuesday, 15 August 2017 and elections will take place on Thursday 14 September 2017.

The need to hold interim elections has come about due to the resignation of some members which have brought the community councils down to below half of their memberships.

To stand for election you must be entered in the current Electoral Register for the Community Council area, or if aged 16 or 17 years old, have completed a Voter Registration application.

Nomination forms and copies of the scheme for the establishment of Community Councils can be downloaded from the Highland Council Website at www.highland.gov.uk/info/799/elections_and_voting/643/community_councils; obtained on request, by e-mail to elections@highland.gov.uk, or by phoning the Council’s Service Centre on 01349 886606.

Completed nomination forms must be returned by 4pm on Tuesday, 15 August 2017 to the appropriate Ward Manager detailed below.
