Postal Votes

The Returning Officer for the Scottish Parliament and Highland Council elections in the Highlands has apologised for the delay in the delivery of ballot papers to the 17,689 people who have applied for a postal vote at the forthcoming elections.

Arthur McCourt expected delivery of postal ballot papers by today (Wednesday).

He said: “We regret very much the delay in the delivery of postal ballot papers and the inconvenience this may cause voters.  This has arisen as the result of difficulties with our suppliers, ERS, and Royal Mail.

“We have been assured that ballot papers have now been printed, enveloped and addressed and sent to the Royal Mail for posting today (Wednesday), with delivery commencing tomorrow (Thursday).”

Mr McCourt said he understood that Returning Officers in other areas of Scotland would be experiencing a similar delay with postal votes.
