Camanachd Association confirms cancellation of Show Piece Game

The Camanachd Association, Shinty’s Governing Body, confirms the cancellation of the Glen Urquhart v Strathglass match, which was due to be held at the Bught Park, Inverness tomorrow, Saturday, as part of the launch of the Highland Year of Culture.

Confirming the cancellation, Gill McDonald, the Camanachd Associations new Chief Executive Officer said; “It is disappointing for the clubs, Highland 2007 and us as an Association that the match has had to be cancelled. A pitch inspection was carried out earlier this afternoon, where it was agreed that between the already unplayable condition of the park and the severe weather which is forecast for tonight the only option was to cancel the game.”

Gill went on to say; “Everyone was looking forward to the game and we will be discussing with Highland 2007 how the event could be re-scheduled.”

Shinty is playing a major part of the Highland Year of Culture throughout 2007. The Scottish Hydro Electric Camanachd Cup Final, the 100th Final, is being held in Inverness on the 22nd of September and the Shinty / Hurling International, being held in Fort William on October 13th will coincide with the start of the Royal National Mod in the town.
