Heavy Rain Causes Early Closure of Inverness Library

Due to the heavy rain today (Wednesday 30th May), Inverness Library has had to close to the public early after water started leaking in from the flat roof between the children’s library and the main lending library.

The library, due to stay open until 5pm, closed at 2.45pm. Staff quickly reacted and the area affected was isolated.  No library materials were damaged and remedial and cleaning works are currently underway.  The library is expected to re-open tomorrow morning as normal.

Area Librarian Carol Goodfellow said:  “As soon as we noticed the leak, electricians were called to isolate the appropriate circuits and the area was sectioned off.  Since then four ceiling tiles have come down but no one was in any danger and there has been no damage to our stock.  Cleaning is now underway so we can open our doors as normal tomorrow morning. I would like to praise all the staff for their quick reaction and thank library users for their understanding.”
