Grant Street Park, Inverness

Members of The Highland Council’s Inverness City Committee today (Monday 28th April) unanimously agreed to instruct the Council’s Area Solicitor to commence proceedings in the Sheriff Court for immediate recovery of possession of land currently occupied under the terms of the lease agreed between the Trustees of the Inverness Common Good Fund and Clachnacuddin Football Club (1990) Ltd.

Previously at a meeting of the City Committee held on the 17 th March, 2008 it was confirmed that Clachnacuddin Football Club Ltd had written to the Council agreeing to voluntarily renounce the lease of the football pitch and ground upon which the stand sits at Grant Street Park to the Inverness Common Good Fund.

Members were informed today, that the Council’s Area Solicitor received on Friday 25th April, 2008 a letter from the club’s solicitors withdrawing the unconditional offer to renounce the lease.

The members expressed disappointment in the letter from the Club’s solicitor having exercised great patience in their dealings with the Club to date.

The matter was brought up as an emergency item at today’s Inverness City Committee and after careful consideration members decided to authorise commencement of legal proceedings to recover possession.

In deciding this, members noted that the termination of the lease could help the club since it would stop further increases in rent arrears. Members remained committed to finding a sustainable solution which would allow the club to continue to play its role in the community of both Merkinch and the wider City.
