West coast pupils gather for Basketball event

Over 50 west coast pupils will attend a basketball festival in Ullapool next week on Tuesday 6th March.

Primary 6 pupils from Achiltibuie, Badcaul and Ullapool primaries will take part in the event from 9:15am to 1pm at Lochbroom Leisure Centre. The event has been coordinated by The Highland Council’s Active Schools Co-ordinator, Gerry McCready,

Top coach, John Kerray from Basketball Highland will be leading the pupils through their paces and passing on many useful tips for improving their game.

The aims of the annual event which is organised by the Ross-shire Primary Schools Sports Association are to: encourage children to be more physically active; create fun, friendship and opportunities for social gatherings among cluster primary schools; and teach the pupils more about the sport and encourage them to continue playing.

Gillian Slider, Highland Youth Convener said: “This is a great opportunity for young people not just to take part in a sport that they enjoy but to learn new skills in their game and also to meet new people and make friends. Its great for them to get the chance to meet up with other people of their own age and to learn from Basketball Highland coach John Kerray.”
