Council Seeks Reassurance From Fujitsu

Following yesterday’s announcement that the IT services unit of electronics giant Fujitsu plans to cut up to 1,200 jobs in the UK, The Highland Council has been in touch with the company and are pressing for a reassurance that Highland staff will not be amongst those to lose their jobs.

Chairman of The Highland Council’s Resources Committee, Councillor Carolyn Wilson said:  “I’m aware that staff working in the Highlands have received letters from Fujitsu and of course I am very concerned about the future of their jobs.  We are actively seeking reassurance from the company that these jobs in Highland will be protected. In the meantime it is very much business as usual.”

The Council’s ICT partnership with Fujitsu is due to finish on the 5th January 2010.  The Council is currently undertaking a formal procurement for a new ICT contract and is currently in dialogue with 2 companies, including Fujitsu.  The procurement is expected to conclude in the near future.
