Success of Nairn concert

Such is the popularity of Highland Regional Music Groups that the Concert in Nairn's Community Centre on Saturday night featuring the Highland Schools Wind Band and the Highland Youth Big Band was a sell-out and the young musicians certainly did not fail to please the capacity audience.

The Highland Council's Music Development Officer, Norman Bolton praised the work of members and staff from both groups.  He said:  “The commitment shown by all the young musicians and their tutors is a credit to the Instrumental Tuition Service in Highland and the wider work of school’s Music Departments.  We encourage high standards of performance and discipline from these young people and they seldom, if ever, disappoint.  Saturday’s Concert, which was the last for many members who will leave school this session, was a suitable finish to this seasons concerts.”

New members for all the Highland Regional Music Groups in their 2010/11 session will be auditioned on Saturday 29th May, when around 400 eager applicants will gather in Millburn Academy to be put through their paces in group and individual activities.  Audition forms are available by contacting Angeline Walker on 01349 863441.  Further information about all the Groups, including the new Highland Youth Choir can be found at www.highland-young-musicians.com
